I have arrived!!

Chemoville...I'm here. Today is the day. In about 3 hours I will be hooked up to an IV that will give me
high dose Melphalan chemotherapy that will begin to eliminate my "Amyloid factory". Words cannot describe how I feel....nervous, yet excited to begin...petrified, yet there's no turning back now...apprehensive, yet confident in the end result...I'm ready...bring it on!

I am buoyed by the strength and support from all of you, and from my wonderful entourage who will be shoving ice cubes in my mouth while I am infused. (They need your prayers as well, because they might find themselves a recipient of a few ice cubes upside the head a few times! LOL) The ice cubes close down the capillaries in my mouth and throat so I don't get mouth sores from the chemo. Not a very medicinal approach but it works so I'm going with whatever they recommend.

They tell me that I'll be real tired later...oh good, one more excuse for another "happy nappy"! I'll try to blog when I wake up and let you know how it went.  And just think...I get to do it all again tomorrow!
Love to all,
Cheryl

  1. Hi Cheryl...I like happy nappys - Wish I could take them at work! I never heard of that ice cubes trick. Dang...hope it works for you but if not, the "happy mouth-sucking wand" is a good tool to have just like the hoover at the dentist's office.Sigh. I hate chemo but I love how it kills off things like amyloids. And about the caregivers - well, it's important for them to feel needed so if that means taking a few ice cubes to the head, I'm sure they are happy to do it. Are you able to watch any TV - as in World Cup? Courtney was at the Portugal/Korea game and probably saw more goals than most people will see the entire tournament. I started my chemo with the Women's World Cup oh way way back when but they won! And just stepping into this whole crapshoot with faith, love and hope - you've won too. Hugs to you. Choose hope.

  2. Hi Cheryl and Caregivers!
You may be there, but we are all with you. Stay strong, watch that world cup and Wimbledon too! Fashion and sports ah, nothing better.. then pretend the ice cubes are strawberries and creme. Yum...
Now, think about the days visiting Fred in Albany, NY and playing tennis... Fred remembers!! :)
We will be heading EAST on Sunday and hope to at minimum dance in the BU Hospital parking lot as you build some healthy cells next week. You have been awesome, so push onward... nothing has ever held CCK back!! Nothing ever will esp AMYLOIDS.
Love to you, and the caregivers...
