Living in the moment...

Another good day of chemo-induction yesterday....complete with awesome chemo-pals, son Shane and sissy Kate - my team needs to meet the whole fam you know! (although i think there was a moment when she wished she had stayed home!)
I know that it's hard to believe, but I'm not kidding when I say that it is such a positive experience to go in and have an IV stuck in my arm for 3 or 4 hours because i know that I'm actually doing something to get rid of this disease. Although my WBC and RBC numbers are coming down, that's a good thing. Unfortunately Chemo cannot discriminate between the bad things in my blood and the good things...so they just attack everything! No worries...I'll be getting the good stuff in a couple weeks:)!

That being said...yesterday was going smoothly, chatting it up with my team, swapping recipes and weekend stories... until i got the second piece of my "cocktail". The nurse left the room and a minute later my BP dropped and I nearly fainted on Kate. It happened so fast and all i could get out of my mouth was "Kate, I'm dizzy, I think I'm going to faint...push the button...the RED one"...and she did. (I think this is when she wished she had stayed home-because not only did her BP skyrocket , but she had literally just mentioned to me how strong i looked and how well i was tolerating the treatment -LOL) Of course, in seconds the room was full of nurses and they got everything under control quickly. It definitely made for some good laughs...and now Kate is making her famous Chocolate Chip Cookies for the whole staff. ( I think i'll be fainting again on Friday!!)

Back home and feeling fine. I have 2 days before family descends on Laurel Drive and lots to do for Bret's Graduation this weekend. I can't believe he's graduating from high school! I am so proud of him. He's done so well. (pic is of Bret and his gal pal Megan at prom)
Not to worry...lots of help from steroids and family to get
everything done...and after a deluge of rain yesterday...
today is another beautiful day! Heading out to enjoy...
Cheryl

  2. Hi Cheryl,

Sounds like you are doing well. Sorta funny to say that after getting your cocktails, right, but really, sounds like you are doing well. Every day done is a day closer to getting your re-charged cells back. Hang in there, I'd say try hard not to overdo it but I suspect that will fall on deaf ears so just have fun, stay in the moment.

    hugs,
    Vicki

  3. Hello Cheryl Ann,
Your blog writings are bright spots in MY week; how about that?! Love the pics of you and Jennifer. Especially the two enormous Celtic boys with little Kupper between. What a good friend you clearly have in her. You probably know, but I'll say anyway: it's also COMPLETELY okay when your attitude is not amazing, and you're not feeling upbeat. So far I think you should be wearing a special cape (or maybe an Ironwoman getup), with various medals adorning your chest. But it's also perfectly fine and normal to break something and sulk. Ideally, not hourly (you'd run out of dishes), but occasionally. My two cents, maybe worth one cent ;-) I just wonder if I could be as spiritual as you are with such a challenge. I hope so. But you never know until you're there. I did do pretty well with being out of work for 6 months last year . . . but health issues are the big ones. I learned a lot during that period and, most happily, my spirituality increased. Got a lovely note from your mom today. I've been thinking about her, too, knowing how she must be feeling about you. I am asking the Higher Power to keep an eye on the Conways! Love, Jacquie

  4. Oh, wow. I don't even know which wow I mean by that: wow, I'm glad they pulled you back from fainting . . . or wow, what a handsome dude Brett is. Let's just jump right to the second one and wish him well as he graduates! love ya, susan

  5. Dear Cheryl,

Love the picture of Bret and Megan. Can you believe you have two children who have graduated from high school? It's amazing how quickly time passes. Let me know if you ever need me to come up and hang out with you for 4 hours. While it's hard to imagine you sitting for 4 hours - it sounds like you are using the time to remember all the things in life that are important. I agree with Jacquie - if you ever need to complain and sulk we'll do whatever we can to bring a smile to your beautiful face.

    Love,
    Margaret
